Letters, 1854-1866.

The collection contains three groups of letters. The first group, written to the Lounsburys in Steuben County, Ind., by Dennis and Drusilla Dean from Silver Creek, Iowa, details frontier life and includes accounts of neighbors going to Pikes Peak searching for gold. Letters written by George W. Spearbeck while he served with the 8th Michigan Volunteer Regiment in South Carolina during the Civil War make up the second group.
